NUHOMS® 24PHB Dry Shielded Canister
The NUHOMS®-24P DSC has a stainless steel outer shell and is double seal welded to ensure 100% reliable confinement for the NUHOMS® 40 year design life and beyond. The DSC has shielding at both ends to provide low exposure rates during canister sealing operations and during the storage campaign. 24 stainless steel guide sleeves are captured within a spacer-disc and support rod structure that makes up the rigid basket assembly. Over 100 canisters of this type have been loaded in the industry. This canister has a part 72 licensed by the NRC under certificate of conformance COC 1004. This storage only canister is capable of storing high burn up fuel up to 55 GWD/MTU and 1.3kw per assembly in a zoning configuration with maximum total heat load of 24 kw. Once loaded with fuel, the DSC is drained, vacuum dried, and backfilled with pure helium to provide an inert environment for the fuel and basket components during storage.
