NUHOMS® 24PT1, 2, 4 Dry Shielded Canister
The NUHOMS®-24PT-1, -2, & -4 Transportable DSC is very similar to the NUHOMS® 24PHB. The two canisters incorporate similar disk and rod type basket. The 24PT however has additional spacer disks to increase its structural rigidity to withstand transport accidents. Stainless steel outer shell and is double seal welded to ensure 100% reliable confinement for the NUHOMS® 40 year design life and beyond. The DSC has shielding at both ends to provide low exposure rates during canister sealing operations and during the storage campaign. 24 stainless steel guide sleeves, with neutron absorber panels, are captured within a spacer-disc and support rod structure that makes up the basket assembly. Once loaded with fuel, the DSC is drained, vacuum dried, and backfilled with pure helium to provide an inert environment for the fuel and basket components during storage.
